Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) remains one of the flagship service areas of PPHI Balochistan, contributing significantly to improved maternal and neonatal health outcomes across the province. Through an integrated primary healthcare approach, PPHI delivers comprehensive reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services, particularly for women and children living in rural and underserved communities. These services support Pakistan’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recognizing that most maternal deaths are preventable through timely, quality healthcare, PPHI Balochistan focuses on preventive care, skilled birth attendance, early diagnosis, emergency obstetric care, and an efficient referral system. The organization addresses major causes of maternal mortality, including postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, infections, prolonged labour, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and other obstetric complications through evidence-based interventions.
Strengthening Primary Healthcare Infrastructure
As of 2025, PPHI Balochistan manages 903 functional Basic Health Units (BHUs) and primary healthcare facilities across 36 districts, significantly improving access to essential maternal and child healthcare services throughout the province.
To further strengthen emergency maternal healthcare, PPHI has established 77 BHU Plus facilities providing 24/7 Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) services. These facilities provide round-the-clock maternal and newborn care, particularly benefiting women in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

These services are supported through collaboration with UNFPA, which has provided technical and programmatic support for the past six years.
Skilled Workforce & Quality Improvement
PPHI Balochistan continues to invest in strengthening the capacity of Women Medical Officers, Lady Health Visitors, Midwives, Nurses and Skilled Birth Attendants through regular clinical training, mentoring and supportive supervision. The organization follows standardized clinical protocols to ensure safe, evidence-based maternal healthcare.
